REVIEW - Cinderella at King George High School

by Neil Richard

Right from the start, the recent production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's CINDERELLA at King George High School was slightly different than their previous production of THE PRINCESS KING. With a long musical introduction to set the mood, the lights went up to show the audience some amazing props. A giant, a dragon, and a horse were all moving around the stage and instantly drew me into the story.

The students and staff performing in the pit orchestra were so in-tune with the happenings on stage that it was easy to forget they were there. Which wasn't really a good thing since they performed so well. Not just with their music setting the mood for the scenes but also with their sound effects.

In addition to the physical props, the actors on stage had some pretty amazing quick change costumes. They were able to easily and quickly change outfits as if by magic, which was fitting when we saw the Fairy Godmother appear for the first time. Cinderella's quick change outfit was also fun to see in action.

Outside of the music and the props and the costumes, the actors themselves did a wonderful job performing. From singing to making their characters come alive, it was fun to see such young people pour their hearts out on the stage. Once again, the high school has put on a wonderful show.
